2012 Resort Collections

 Missoni Resort Collection 2012

 Bottega Veneta Resort Collection 2012

Chanel Resort Collection 2012

So, I FINALLY got my hands on some of the images of the 2012 Resort Collections. Personally, the Bottega Veneta was my favourite but the colours and quirkiness of the Missoni Collection were also devine! For someone who is an avid winter lover, these dresses sure made me miss summer!

Going up to JHB next week for work. We are launching our new "revamped" brand at White on White. Quite excited to do something different for a few days. Also, different city, different styles...So i'm going to try be as objective as possible and soak up as much JHB as I can. Will report back with some pics.

Forever in love!!

Last week while at work, typing on my new MacbookPro, my hands became very cold (due to the metal surface) and I decided it was 'bout high time to get some gloves to keep me warm, and at maximum efficiency, for work of course! ;)

Gloves, gloves, gloves...

Where to buy gloves that are stylish yet practical...hmmmm. Being attached to my laptop, I googled fingerless-gloves images. (needed to be able to type) To my surprise I saw the CUTEST pairs of gloves (plural) from Forever New. (See picture insert)
As anybody close to knows, my favourite shop at the moment is Forever New.

They have the most devine clothes at relatively affordable prices. Ok, maybe not "affordable", especially for students and people in their first job, BUT, the heart wants what the heart wants. The only catch is that because it is an internationally based label, their seasons and collections are not always in sync with ours. This made me worry that the SA stores wouldn't have the gloves I had seen.

So, on my way home I called the VNA store and asked if they had gloves in stock. They said they had just received stock and they had a wide selection!!! I literally made my fiancé stop my car in its tracks and aim it towards the store. Much to his dismay (his priority being food for supper), we went to the VNA, he double parked outside and as I got out he said " Only ONE pair of gloves and NOT more than R250!"..."Yes, yesyes" I said as i trailed off.

As I walked into the shop the wall of accessories immediately caught my eye. GLOVES!! Fingerless-GLOVES!! Different styles different colours. Needless to say, I stood infront of them for 25minutes trying to decide on only ONE pair. It was a toss up between 2 pairs, one pale pink and one camel, one pretty and one sparkly. With BOTH in hand and slightly over budget, I walked over to the point of sale with a guilty grin on my face. As I put the gloves down, the friendly assistant said "We have a special at the moment were if you buy TWO items from the wall you get an ADDITIONAL one for FREE!!!!!!!!" :) My guilt automatically vanished as I chose a pink and camel cashmere scarf to match my two pairs of gloves.

I was SOLDIt was fate.

Trying to convince my fiancé of this fate was a whole different story. But the tale ended with a happily ever after, warm fingers AND a warm neck!!  Have set my eyes on the next outfit I'd like from Forever New....

My take on Winter '11 trends (part two)

Part Two :)
Hair:
Sleek hair is spot on trend at the moment. Either in a well-defined parting, held in place with a soft hold serum, or slicked back into an elegant ponytail. Brush hair back flat to create smoothe effect and fasten hair in a high ponytail. Take a strand of hair and wrap it around the hairband and fasten with a bobby pin, to hide the hair band.
Make up:
Nails – Dark hues such as greys, blues and purples. Even better in metallics on well-manicured round short nails. New trend for the more adventurous, the “reverse French manicure”.  For the best outcome only attempt if you have a steady hand or visit a professional.
Face - In winter it’s always popular to create a dewier complexion over a very matte complexion which can come across as dry. For a “glowing” but not greasy face try ‘You Rebel’ tinted moisturiser by Benefit.
Day make-up is at its most natural with a palette of nudes being key. Soft fresh looking skin, with highlights on brow and cheek bones, soft brown and beiges on eyelids (try ‘Naked Lunch’ eye shadow by MAC) and neutral lip colour.
Evening make-up is taking very dramatic turns. Either playing up eyes or lips, but not both simultaneously.  Smokey eyes in metallic shades with strong black liner and long thick lashes (try ‘Hypnose’ by Lancome) OR lips in bold dark reds and plums, finished off with a slick of gloss.
Bags:
Very popular this winter are long over the shoulder bags. Whether small and clutch like or bigger and slouchy. Nudes, Blacks and Reds are right on trend. Check out Missibaba for stunning local designs with European influences.
With all these stunning winter trends to inspire you, go forth and be warm, comfortable and stylish!!

My take on Winter '11 trends (part one)

Every sphere of fashion has a very specific trend this Winter - this is my take on each of them.
Lets work our way from top-to-toe, leaving the BEST part for last ;)

Head wear: Its cold out and the perfect cure for bad hair days is now right on trend. Hats. Cute and embellished or plain and simple. Whatever your preference, there's a style to suit you. My favourite at the moment is the oversized "beanie".

Jackets/Coats: Possibly THE biggest trend this winter is, the Trench coat. Different lengths and fabrics for different figures, but if its a choice of only one,   it HAS to be camel and if you have the budget, Burberry!! It will last forever and its a classic cut, that won't date.

Pants/ Trousers: As much as I find them unflattering on my figure, wide-legged 70's inspired pants are making a come-back. On the right figure they can give the illusion of height as well as streamline the hips and legs. Solid colours are great for colour blocking and creating a statement. Very versatile, dress them down for weekend shopping with a cashmere jersey and clogs, or dress them up with a silk pussy-bow blouse and sleek courts. If however they seem slightly too simple for you, why don't you try the alternative, Harem pants, and depending on the fabric can also be worn at all occasions.

Shoes: WOW! There is such a variety of absolutely fabulous footwear, maybe I'm biased cos I plan my my outfits from my feet up. Have a good look and tell me there isn't a style that appeals to you!
1) Clogs - high yet comfy, slip-on, peep-toe, studded
2)Wedge boots - ankle, calf or knee-high, mostly lace-ups, in gorgeous colours
3)Military inspired ankle boots - think zips, laces, embellished buttons
4)Boots (general) - flat, heeled, riding boots, wellingtons (by Hunter),classic, menswear-inspired
My take on Winter '11 (part two)- accessories, bags, hair and make-up, coming soon.
